INDIANAPOLIS (January 27, 2026) – Indiana Right to Life spoke out today in support of Senate Bill 236, passed this afternoon in the Indiana Senate by a 35-10 margin.

IRTL President Mike Fichter issued the following statement on the bill:

We fully support SB 236 because it protects the lives of unborn babies and their mothers from the dangers of abortion-pill traffickers. These abortion enthusiasts exploit loopholes in Indiana law and are currently unaccountable for ending the lives of unborn babies, and putting pregnant mothers at risk of severe complications and death.

SB 236 is policy that truly protects women from abortion-pill trafficking, as well as deterring the coercion and pressure to abort their babies from abortion providers, partners, sex traffickers and other criminal sources.

It is repulsive that abortion enthusiasts place access to illegally mailed abortion pills over any concern for pregnant women.

To truly love them both – pregnant moms and their unborn babies – Indiana must protect them from the harm of abortion-pill traffickers.

A vote against SB 236 is a vote supporting illegal abortion-pill trafficking.

SB 236 will now head to the Indiana House for consideration.
